01 Story

The story behind Bored Bills.

Bored Bills was born from a simple idea: people need better places to spend time together.

In a world full of screens, busy schedules, and routine entertainment, tabletop games still have a rare power to bring people face-to-face. The challenge is everything around them: choosing the right game, feeding the group, creating the right setting, explaining the rules, and giving people a reason to come back.

Bored Bills turns that friction into a place: curated board games, locally sourced light fare, good drinks, weekly programming, memberships, rewards, and private events in one welcoming social lounge.

Melissa Jackson brings both the personal vision and the disciplined operating mindset behind Bored Bills.

For Melissa, board games have long been a way to spend meaningful time with friends and family. Around the table, distractions fade, conversation comes naturally, and an ordinary evening can become a lasting memory. Bored Bills grew from her belief that people need more welcoming places designed for that kind of shared experience.

Melissa has spent more than 15 years leading business and technology initiatives through GRID1T, LLC. Her work has required her to translate complex ideas into practical systems, coordinate teams and vendors, improve customer-facing processes, and guide projects from early planning through implementation.

She is bringing that same thoughtful approach to Bored Bills. The guest experience, membership program, ordering, events, staffing, rewards, and customer communication are being designed as connected parts of the business rather than added later. The goal is a concept that feels warm and effortless to the guest while operating with clarity and consistency behind the scenes.

With a B.S. in Accounting, an MBA from the University of Maryland, PMP certification, and hands-on experience supporting restaurant launches in the Washington, D.C. region, Melissa is building Bored Bills around a simple philosophy:

Bring people together in front.
Use technology behind the scenes to make every visit seamless and memorable.

Design Inspiration

From activity space to modern social lounge.

Renovation Strategy Use the existing open plan, bright interior, flexible floor plate, and activity-oriented energy where possible.
Polished Social Atmosphere Bold signage, modern seating, clean lighting, and black, red, gold, and white brand moments create a space that feels energetic, welcoming, and grown-up without losing playfulness.
Game Library Anchor Board games, trading cards, staff picks, event screens, and a food-and-drink counter become the visual draw.
Technology Layer Digital menus, QR ordering, event screens, memberships, and rewards support the experience without taking over the room.

Hospitality in front. Smart systems behind it.
